- What makes an air filter the best choice for a diesel engine?
- One that uses a high quality filter medium able to retain even sub-micron particles. A large share of the contamination is smaller than 5 microns and can damage pistons, rings and liners.
- Is an oiled or a dry air filter better?
- Oiled filters retain around 98% of contaminants, while dry filters can reach up to 99% efficiency thanks to a finer medium. Additional oiling does not necessarily mean better protection.
- Are washable air filters a good option?
- In general they are not recommended. They are difficult to clean properly, they can be damaged during washing and micro openings can form that let dust through.
